Brazilian Furniture Giant
Herval Brings Premier Product Line Uultis to New York

The stylish, handmade, and eco-friendly contemporary Brazilian furniture brand Uultis has expanded into the New York design market with its US-based showroom in the New York Design Center, located at 200 Lexington Avenue.

"Expanding Uultis to New York City and the United States from Brazil represents not just a geographical journey for our brand, but a great leap into new opportunities and new markets,” says Rodrigo Seger, Vice President of Grupo Herval, the large Brazilian conglomerate which debuted Uultis as their high-end designer furniture line in 2016.

Herval is today one of the largest conglomerates in Brazil, with business interests in natural materials, finance, retail, and technology sectors. But it was founded in 1959 as a logging company and furniture remains at the core of the business — in addition to Uultis, they produce furniture in Brazil for many other international design brands.

Uultis has collaborated with architects and interior designers from Latin America to design furniture including Rafael Reis, Inácio Schnorrenberger, Aciole Félix, Larissa Batista, and Sérgio Batista. The designs reflect what we have come to expect from Brazilian furniture; organic shapes and curves inspired by nature, luxurious natural materials, and overall a sense of quality and comfort married with elegance and style.

Several pieces take design cues from the Brazilian mid-century modern designers, but this is resolutely contemporary furniture for contemporary homes, Seger explains. “We specifically encourage a collaborative and differentiated concept in the creation of pieces,” he says. “The creative composition happens through the union of Uultis Studio, led by Ramon Lambert, and the projects made by architects and designers.”

The material for the furniture is sourced locally in Brazil — from several wood species including teak, oak, and walnut, to natural fabric options — and everything is handmade. Because of the relationship to Herval, all the designs are available in quantities for commercial projects if needed, and Uultis maintains warehouse storage in Miami for quick shipment within the US. Seger also plans to open a Miami showroom this year.

“Our expansion is a real testament to our ambition and a commitment to serving a broader audience with our vision and offerings,” Seger says. “Herval Group began as a sawmill, so there is a strong history and commitment to using solid woods and providing the highest quality for our chairs, desks, consoles, beds, sofas, and more.”

Running the Uultis New York showroom are Nicole Kapit, coming from Guy Regal, as the showroom director, and Mitzie Morgan who joins Uultis US with a background in contemporary interiors, and real estate.
