Leading Interior Designer Bunny Williams to Discuss Furnishing the Garden at the Boston Design Center
On Tuesday, April 28, 2015, the leading interior designer Bunny Williams will host a presentation titled “Furnishing the Garden” at the Boston Design Center. Williams, a distinguished garden expert, will share gardening tips as well as images of gardens around the world that have inspired her work.
Williams established her own design company, Bunny Williams Incorporated, in 1988, after more than two decades working alongside the inimitable interior designer and tastemaker Albert Hadley at the legendary firm Parish-Hadley Associates. Schooled in the classics, Williams emerged as a master at infusing traditional design with energy and a sense of approachability. Her acute attention to detail partnered with her ability to create balance between one-of-a-kind antiques, fine art, eye-catching patterns, and sumptuous textures, has earned her a reputation as the go-to designer for timeless and incredibly dynamic interiors that are both elegant and effortless. Williams’ passion for design and her knack for creating harmonious and beautiful spaces extends beyond interiors into the garden.
Williams’ love for gardening came from her early upbringing in rural Charlottesville, Virginia, and in 1991, she established Treillage Ltd., a garden furniture and ornament shop in New York, alongside the esteemed antiques dealer John Rosselli. During her lecture at the Boston Design Center, Williams will discuss how the lessons she has learned through interior design are inseparably woven into her gardening style and how issues of scale, texture, color, and use of space translate to the garden and other outdoor spaces. Williams will touch on her own gardens in northwest Connecticut and in the Dominican Republic, as well as her new outdoor collection for Century Furniture.

Williams’ presentation at the Boston Design Center coincides with the debut of her newly revised volume Bunny Williams On Garden Style. Originally published in 1998, On Garden Style focuses on the process behind creating a highly personal garden sanctuary. Williams imparts vital information on how to envision your garden and design a space that reflects your individual taste and style. Williams offers advice for bringing your garden to fruition, including establishing an aesthetic, determining the garden structure, and furnishing the space. The book also includes plant lists, a reading list, and photographs of impeccably designed gardens that illustrate the components that go into creating a successful outdoor space. The 2015 edition of On Garden Style, which boasts a larger format and features new photographs, continues to shed light on the elements that make a garden appealing and idyllic.
A luncheon in the Century Furniture showroom will immediately follow Williams’ 11AM presentation at the Boston Design Center. At 2PM, Williams will host an On Garden Style book signing in the Lee Jofa showroom.
