There's a certain irony to the name Marcy Carsey chose for the must-see, put it on your "bucket list" museum and art gallery she co-owns with fellow entertainment executive, Susan Baerwald in Summerland. "Just Folk." As if Ms. Carsey, former Senior Vice President of ABC-TV's prime-time series, winner of such prestigious awards as the Emmy, the Peabody, the NAACP Image Award, the David Susskind Lifetime Achievement Award and placement in the Museum of the American Dream as one of the 20th century's most extraordinary achievers, could ever be called "Just Folk."

Yet peel away the professional, polished, and perfectionist layer that personifies Ms. Carsey's work ethic, you find the heart and soul of what she calls "a true Yankee," someone who makes the most of every opportunity, believes in hard work and personal integrity and knows if you really want something out of life, "you find your own breaks."

"I'm always amazed when people tell me I'm "lucky" to have landed a network job, or I was at the right time at the right place when I risked everything to take a chance with The Cosby Show" (one of the many successful sitcoms she produced as partner and co-founded of Carsey-Werner Company). "With that show, a show, mind you, that pushed the boundaries of tradition, I glorified simple family values." Just Folk. America loved it and Ms. Carsey continued her winning streak with such hit shows as Roseanne, Grace Under Fire, 3rd Rock from the Sun, and That 70's Show.

Now retired, she pours her time and energy into the gallery and her family life; "thrilled" to have her mother, age 103, living with her at her Brentwood estate. On any given Friday, Marcy likes to throw a party; laying out a hardwood dancing floor in her family room and passing out dozens of pairs of tap shoes for her guests. And as the show tunes fill the airwaves and good wine fills their glasses, it all makes sense. In Marcy Carsey's world: good times, good frieds. Just Folk.
