Maison Birks
Canadian, 1879
The Canadian Jewelry firm was founded in 1879 by Henry Birks as Henry Birks & Sons of Montreal. Henry had formerly worked at Savage & Lyman before starting his own firm. Some other silver and jewelry companies that were absorbed into the Birk company over the years were Ryrie Brothers and PW Ellis, both of Toronto. The firm was named Birks-Ellis-Ryrie after a Trade Mark dispute in the 1930s. Known for their "Blue Box", Maison Birks continues to create quality jewelry today in Canada and worldwide.
