Felipe Varanda

Felipe Varanda embarked on his photography career at Jornal do Brasil and Folha de S.Paulo, later contributing to major Brazilian magazines as a freelancer. He earned a Master's in Communication from ECO-UFRJ and graduated in journalism in 1998, furthering his studies with a postgraduate degree in Photography as an Instrument of Studies in Social Sciences at UCAM. His decade-long photographic essay "Arquelogia de Futuras Ruínas," documenting Rio de Janeiro's port region, was exhibited at the National Historical Museum in 2015 and features works now part of the Rio Art Museum's (MAR) permanent collection. Varanda's individual exhibition "Vestígios" was showcased at the Memo Brasil gallery in 2016, and he has contributed to various collectives, including "As dust in the wind" at the Rio Art Museum and FotoRio, the International Photography Festival in Rio de Janeiro. His innovative approach earned him the Oi Futuro Urban Interference Award in 2008 for his photographic installation, "Transposition of Rio Carioca."
