George Deem
American, 1932
George Deem (1932-2008) was an American painter known for his post-modernist approach to art, which involved the reinterpretation of famous works by old masters. He was born in Indianapolis, Indiana, and studied at the Herron School of Art and the Art Institute of Chicago.
Deem's paintings often feature a combination of different styles and art historical references, ranging from the works of Vermeer to the American pop artists of the 1960s. He was particularly interested in the ways that art and culture intersect, and his work often explored the boundaries between high and low art, as well as the relationship between art and consumerism.
Throughout his career, Deem exhibited his work in galleries and museums throughout the United States and Europe, and he received numerous awards and honors for his contributions to the field of contemporary art. He was widely respected for his unique approach to art-making and his ability to create works that were both visually striking and intellectually engaging.
