Gunnar Myrstrand

Gunnar Myrstrand (1916-1982) was a Swedish furniture designer and architect. He was born in Stockholm, Sweden and studied at the Royal Institute of Technology in Stockholm and the Royal Academy of Fine Arts in Copenhagen.
 
Myrstrand began his career as an architect, but later shifted his focus to furniture design. He was known for his innovative use of materials, particularly in his use of laminated wood. Myrstrand's designs were often characterized by clean lines, minimalist forms, and a functionalist aesthetic.
 
In the 1950s and 1960s, Myrstrand worked with a number of prominent Scandinavian furniture manufacturers, including AB Skandinaviska Möbelfabrikerna and G. A. Berg. He also designed furniture for a number of public buildings, including the Swedish embassy in Tokyo.
 
Today, Myrstrand's furniture designs are highly sought after by collectors and enthusiasts of mid-century modern design. Many of his pieces are characterized by their sculptural qualities, and are considered to be important examples of Scandinavian modernism.
