James Rosenquist
American, 1933 - 2017
James Albert Rosenquist (November 29, 1933 – March 31, 2017) was a prominent American artist celebrated as a key figure in the pop art movement. With a background in sign painting, Rosenquist's art uniquely integrated advertising and consumer culture, employing techniques from commercial art to portray iconic cultural symbols and everyday objects. Unlike his pop art contemporaries, such as Andy Warhol and Roy Lichtenstein, Rosenquist’s work often incorporated surrealist elements, blending fragments of advertisements and cultural imagery to highlight the pervasive influence of media and advertising. In recognition of his contributions, he was inducted into the Florida Artists Hall of Fame in 2001.
