Jean Lurcat / Jean Lurçat
French, 1892 - 1968
Jean Lurçat (1892-1966) was a French artist known for his tapestries, ceramics, and paintings. He was a prominent figure in the mid-20th-century revival of tapestry-making in France, and his works often feature colorful, abstract designs that draw on folk art and the natural world. Lurçat also played an important role in the French Resistance during World War II, using his artistic skills to create anti-Nazi propaganda. He continued to create art until his death in 1966, and his works can be found in museums and private collections around the world.
