Johannes Andersen

Danish, 1903 - 1991
Johannes Andersen (1903-1991) was a Danish furniture designer who played an important role in shaping the mid-century modern design movement in Denmark. He trained as a cabinetmaker before studying at the School of Arts and Crafts in Copenhagen.

Andersen's work was characterized by his use of high-quality materials, attention to detail, and commitment to functionalism. He created a number of iconic furniture designs, including the "Capri" chair, which features a curved backrest and a sleek, modernist design, and the "Uldum" dining table, which features an elegant, tapered base and a simple, clean-lined tabletop.

Andersen's designs were often inspired by traditional Danish furniture-making techniques, but he brought a modernist sensibility to his work, using new materials and technologies to create sleek, minimalist designs. He was also known for his innovative use of veneers, which he used to create bold, graphic patterns in his furniture designs.

Today, Andersen's furniture designs are highly sought after by collectors and design enthusiasts around the world, and his pieces can be found in museums and private collections. His legacy continues to inspire contemporary furniture designers, and his designs are still produced by a number of Danish furniture manufacturers.
