Milton Resnick
American, 1917 - 2004
Milton Resnick was an American painter associated with the Abstract Expressionist movement. He was born on January 7, 1917, in Bratslav, Ukraine, and emigrated to the United States with his family in 1922. Resnick studied at the American Artists School in New York City and worked as an artist throughout his life.
Resnick's paintings are known for their powerful, gestural brushwork and use of bold colors. He often worked on large canvases and favored dark, earthy tones. Resnick's work has been compared to that of other Abstract Expressionists such as Willem de Kooning and Jackson Pollock, but his paintings are also highly individual and distinct.
Resnick's work has been exhibited widely both in the United States and internationally, and he was the subject of numerous solo exhibitions during his lifetime. His paintings can be found in the collections of many major museums, including the Metropolitan Museum of Art and the Museum of Modern Art in New York City. Resnick passed away on March 12, 2004, in New York City.
