Nathan Brujis
Peruvian, 1971
Nathan Brujis has cultivated a visual language that serves as a conduit for the expressive potency of the subconscious and the spiritual realm. Commencing with elementary geometric forms and dynamic brushstrokes meticulously layered, Brujis' artistic journey evolves into a multidimensional exploration of opposing forces—an embodiment of the universal fabric envisioned through the artist's discerning eyes. His creations eschew direct representation of identifiable objects, opting instead for the exploration of abstract forces, presenting an expressive and lyrical encounter with subconscious imagery. Each artwork becomes an intuitive process of self-discovery, with some pieces swiftly revealing themselves while others unfold through intricate layers, exploring the density of time over the course of months.
Born in Lima, Peru, in 1971, Nathan Brujis pursued studies in art and philosophy at Brandeis University, culminating in a master's degree from the American University of Washington DC. His artistic prowess has earned him significant accolades, including the Deborah Josepha Cohen Memorial Award for Excellence in Painting in 1992, the New York Studio School Faculty Award in 1994, and the prestigious Premio per la Pittura Lorenzo il Magnifico at the Florence Biennale dell’Arte Contemporanea in 2001 and 2003. Brujis has showcased his works extensively in exhibitions held in New York, Lima, Peru, and Italy.
Currently residing and creating in New York, Nathan Brujis continues to push the boundaries of artistic expression, inviting viewers into a profound exploration of the subconscious and the spiritual through his distinctive visual language.
