Omann Jun Møbelfabrik A/S

Danish, 1933
Gunni Omann, born on May 14, 1930 was the visionary behind the most acclaimed furniture creations of Omann Jun's Moebelfabrik A/S. His design philosophy was characterized by an unwavering dedication to precision, craftsmanship, and uncompromising quality.

Omann Jun's Moebelfabrik A/S, the Danish furniture manufacturing firm, was originally established by Andreas Omann in 1933. Initially specializing in crafting bedroom furniture, the family-owned enterprise underwent a remarkable transformation in the 1950s, '60s, and '70s. During this period, they expanded their repertoire to include dining room furniture, desks, sideboards, and shelving systems, all meticulously fashioned from the finest woods such as teak, oak, and rosewood. These exquisite pieces found homes all over the world.

Gunni Omann, the eldest son of Andreas Omann, assumed the role of designer within the family enterprise and left an indelible mark with his innovative creations.

Gunni Omann's journey began as a cabinetmaker under the tutelage of Max Rasmussen Furniture A/S in Odense, culminating in his diploma being awarded on April 27, 1951. Following two years of service in the Army, he further honed his craft by attending the Technical College in Aarhus, graduating as a proficient furniture designer in October 1954.

Upon completing his education, Gunni Omann returned to the familial fold, where he seamlessly integrated his design prowess and provided invaluable support to his father in running the factory.

In a pivotal move on February 2, 1957, Gunni Omann embarked on a journey to the United States. There, he immersed himself in the furniture industry, delving into the realms of rationalization and contemporary production techniques. Throughout his stay, he maintained an extensive correspondence with his father, exchanging 63 typewritten letters in just 16 months. These letters covered a wide range of topics, including novel furniture designs, innovative production methodologies to be implemented in the Danish factory, and strategies for expanding their presence in the American market. This international connection allowed them to closely monitor the sales growth of Gunni Omann's freshly conceived designs.

Due to the escalating activity within the family business, Andreas Omann requested Gunni Omann's return to Denmark. On May 29, 1958, Gunni Omann came back home and immediately joined forces with his father. Together, they optimized production processes and brought modern methods to the forefront. Simultaneously, Gunni continued to push the boundaries of his design work, leaving an enduring legacy in the world of furniture craftsmanship.  Gunni Omann sadly passed away in March 2009.
