Paolo Gucci
Italian, 1931 - 1995
Paolo Gucci was a former Gucci brand design chief and a central player in the Italian leather goods family. He was the grandson of Guccio Gucci and founder of the Gucci company in 1923. Paolo's father was Guccio Gucci's younger son, Aldo Gucci, who had established the Fifth Avenue NY location in the 1950s. Paolo Gucci designed many of the Gucci family items but was also well known for his fueding and falling out with his father and uncle, Rodolfo. He was credited with introducing the ‘Gucci look’, which included the use of bamboo handles on handbags and the iconic bamboo logo. He retired from the company in 1990 and died five years later.
