Rene Prou

French, 1889 - 1947
René Prou was a French architect, furniture designer, and decorative artist who was active during the Art Deco period. He was born in 1889 in Paris, France, and died in 1947.
 
Prou's designs were characterized by their luxurious materials, bold forms, and streamlined aesthetic. He worked with a variety of materials, including exotic woods, ivory, lacquer, and metals, and his furniture designs often featured geometric shapes and strong lines.
 
In addition to furniture, Prou also designed interiors and decorative objects, such as mirrors, lighting fixtures, and sculptures. He was known for his innovative use of materials and his ability to create a harmonious and cohesive design scheme.
 
Some of Prou's most famous designs include the "Cascade" sideboard, which featured a cascading waterfall of drawers, and the "Cabinet des Voyageurs," a multi-functional piece that could be used as a bar, bookcase, or writing desk.
 
Prou's work was highly influential during the Art Deco period, and his designs continue to be highly sought after by collectors and enthusiasts of the style. Today, his pieces can be found in museum collections around the world, including the Musée d'Orsay in Paris and the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York.
