Rob Grad: Shaping Perspectives Through 3D Collages and Sculptures

A native of Southern California, Rob Grad is renowned for his introspective yet bold artistic creations, spanning 3D collages, sculptures, writing, and music. Influenced by his two decades in Venice Beach, CA, his work is characterized by heavily layered visuals that juxtapose photographic vignettes of natural and urban landscapes with drawing, painting, and his own words.

Grad's art delves into existential themes of desire, fulfillment, and resilience, reflecting on the impact of technology, social media, and politics in contemporary society. His recent work is increasingly informed by his early career as a musician, during which he signed with RCA records and appeared on MTV shortly after graduating high school.

As a product of the "MTV generation," which forged its identity through a shared global experience, Grad's artistic ethos centers on continual self-reinvention and exploration of new territories. This approach has led him to push the boundaries of his practice, seeking the extraordinary within the ordinary.

His work has been showcased in museums, galleries, and art fairs worldwide, including Basel, Miami, and Los Angeles. In 2024, he is set to exhibit at the Museum of Art and History in Lancaster, CA, as part of the Getty's Pacific Standard Time initiative. Other notable exhibitions include those at the Torrance Art Museum, Haute Photographie in Rotterdam, and the Griffin Museum of Photography in Boston. His large-scale commissioned works adorn both coasts, and his pieces are held in private collections globally.

Grad's commitment to authenticity and following his internal muse is evident in his TEDx Talk in Culver City, CA, where he discussed the importance of authenticity in art. He has also engaged in a video project for TikTok China, showcasing his innovative approach to storytelling. Through his blog, "Creativesphere," he shares insights into his art practice, inspiring creativity and problem-solving in today's culture and society.
