Robert Sonneman is an American lighting designer and entrepreneur who has been a prominent figure in the lighting industry for over five decades. He was born in 1942 in New York City and grew up in Long Island.
Sonneman studied architecture and industrial design at the Pratt Institute in Brooklyn, where he developed an interest in lighting design. After graduating in 1964, he worked for several lighting companies before founding his own, Robert Sonneman Associates, in 1967.
