Silas Seandel
Showrooms
Silas Seandel was born in New York City, August 11, 1937. He studied sculpture and economics at the University of Pennsylvania, graduating in 1959, and opened his studio in 1963. While Mr. Seandel was working on a collection for his first one-man show, he was commissioned by an architect to create a wall sculpture for a country club in Westchester County. The work drew the attention of interior designers, who called with requests for commissioned pieces. Mr. Seandel has been working almost exclusively for architects, interior designers and engineers ever since.
Best known for his unique, one-of-a-kind pieces of sculptural furniture, he has also produced a number of large public sculpture commissions, notably a fifteen-foot-tall stainless steel and bronze 9/11 memorial piece for the grounds of Greenwich Hospital in Connecticut.
The pieces are all handmade in the Silas Seandel Studio and executed in solid metals such as brass, bronze, steel and copper. These are no enamels, no veneers, nothing addtional added. All colors are the result of custom acid and heat treatments which Mr. Seandel has developed through years of experimentation. Pieces can be custom crafted to your size, shape and finish specifications.
Sherman Emery, past Editor of Interior Design Magazine said of his work, "I have been a long-time admirer of the work of Silas Seandel and consider him to be one of the finest artist-craftsman on the American scene today. He was one of the first artists to introduce traditional sculpture techniques into the field of furniture, and his handsome tables are frequently seen in outstanding residential interiors."
