Thomas Doughty
American, 1793 - 1856
Originally a student of Thomas Sully in Philadelphia, Thomas Doughty was one of the first, and most important, American landscape painters. He gained renown for his quiet, pastoral landscapes of the Hudson River Valley, Pennsylvania, and New England. He was a regular exhibitor and member of the National Academy of Design and the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts.
