Tim Holmstrom
Norwegian
Tim Holmstrom is a photographer, journalist, and race organizer who has traveled to and photographed in more than 30 countries over the last 25 years.
Some of his personal highlights as a journalist and photographer include crewing on a replica of the tall ship Endeavor through the Panama Canal and the Galapagos Islands, participating in a Kava ceremony with village elders on the Fijian island of Waya, and spending days photographing Sea Gypsies on the islands of Borneo.
One of his most challenging assignments involved rappelling down a series of nine towering cascades and basins in the high mountain gorge known as Fleur Jaune Canyon on Reunion Island, near Madagascar. While covering an adventure race, he spent five hours descending fixed ropes and felt euphoric to have emerged mostly unscathed.
Later in life, Tim began painting, believing that his photography, travels, and boundless curiosity profoundly inform his current work. His recent creations—oil on canvas and ink and oil on watercolor paper—explore nature's temporary and chaotic forces and how we perceive our stream of experiences, allowing them to flow in and around us. He reflects on the tenuous, fragile, and transitory nature of these experiences, while recognizing humanity's brief existence on a cosmic scale.
Tim emphasizes the continual cycle of formation, dissolution, and transformation in life, navigating the waves of creation, destruction, entropy, and rebirth. He finds joy in knowing that his work resonates with others, potentially offering them fresh, unordinary, or insightful perspectives.
Looking ahead, Tim is excited for the next chapter and challenges that await him. He is represented by Iconica Fine Art by Isabella Garrucho.
