Torbjorn Afdal

Norwegian, 1917 - 1999
Torbjørn Afdal (1917-1999) was a Norwegian furniture designer, best known for his work in the mid-century modern style. Afdal was born in Bergen, Norway and studied at the Bergen School of Arts and Crafts.

Afdal's designs are characterized by a minimalist aesthetic, with a focus on clean lines and simple forms. He often used high-quality materials such as teak, rosewood, and leather, and his designs were noted for their functionalism and practicality.

Some of Afdal's most well-known designs include the "Krobo" bench (1958), the "Kroken" chair (1963), and the "Bukkestolen" chair (1960), which all feature his signature clean lines and use of wood.

Afdal worked with a number of prominent Scandinavian furniture manufacturers throughout his career, including Bruksbo, Nesjestranda Møbelfabrik, and Vatne Møbler. His work has been exhibited in museums and galleries throughout Europe and the United States, and his designs are still highly sought after by collectors and enthusiasts of mid-century modern design.
