Vincent Cazeneuve
French, 1977
Vincent Cazeneuve (born 1977) is a French artist whose creative endeavors are uniquely expressed through the use of Chinese lacquer as his primary medium.
Having completed his studies in France, Cazeneuve founded a specialized studio dedicated to the restoration of both Western and Asian lacquerware. In 2009, he embarked on a transformative journey, relocating to Chongqing, China, with the aim of unraveling the mysteries of lacquer, immersing himself in traditional Chinese culture, and mastering the artisanal techniques associated with his craft.
Drawing inspiration from both Western and Eastern influences, Cazeneuve has intricately woven narratives and aesthetics into his work. His artistic language, seemingly simple yet profoundly complex, unfolds across non-traditional canvases such as aged rice bags, jute ropes, bamboo, and leather. Venturing beyond conventional boundaries, he explores diverse artistic forms, including lithography, relief carving, collage, and traditional crafts like cloth and bamboo weaving, infusing his creations with layers of richness and tangible textures.
Vincent Cazeneuve's compelling body of work has graced numerous art institutions in China and internationally. Notable exhibitions include showcases at the Academy of Arts and Design of Tsinghua University, Beijing (2020), Yunnan Provincial Museum (2019), Art Museum of Sichuan Fine Arts Institute (2019), Chinese Cultural Center in Paris, France (2017), Revel IMARA in France (2013), and the Shanghai Biennale of Contemporary Art (2010), among others. Beyond exhibition spaces, his art has found a home in private collections spanning France, Italy, the United States, Switzerland, and China.
