    8 Volumes. Edward Gibbon, The History of the Decline and Fall of the Roman Empire. Bound in full wine calf with the covers displaying a gilt-tooled and open-tooled border with gilt-tooled floral corner details. The spines display green and yellow morocco labels with raised bands, floral panel details, bordering, and label lettering, all gilt-tooled. All of the edges are marbled with marbled endpapers. Illustrated with a portrait of Gibbon and numerous maps (some hand colored in outline). Notes by Dean Milman, M. Guizot, and William Smith. Published by John Murray in London, 1854.
