One of the rarer, 'collected' works because it includes Lady Susan and The Watsons. The former was written in 1797 and 1798, sold to a publisher, who didn't print it. One of Jane Austen's brothers purchased it back from the publisher in 1816 but it was not published until 1871 when Austen's nephew James Edward Austen-Leigh included it in his biography of his aunt, A Memoir of Jane Austen; the novella is written in the epistolary format popular in Austen's youth.

The Watsons is a fragment of a novel, written on Bath on paper watermarked 1803. The work was put aside by Austen and never finished.

5 vols, 8vo (204 x 138 mm); titles in red and black, a few very faint spots to half-titles, otherwise near-fine; modern half crushed tan morocco gilt, raised spine bands, red and green morocco lettering pieces, delicate floral green endpapers, top edge gilt (slightly scratched), a handsome set.
