Description
Samuel L. Clemens as “Mark Twain” (1835-1910).
Roughing it in California.
Kentfield-California: The L-D Allen Press, 1953
8vo., (10 1/4 x 6 1/2 inches). Color-printed decorative title page. 6 three-color woodcuts by Mallette Dean. Original salmon-pink cloth backed wood-grained boards (spine somewhat sunned).
One of 200 copies. Text is excerpted from Twain’s semi-autobiographical travel book Roughing It, published in 1872, detailing his adventures in the Wild West. This slim volume recounts Twain’s sojourn in California, from Lake Tahoe to San Francisco. With playful illustrations by Mallette Dean and nice text design by Lewis and Dorothy Allen. -
