Antique French gilt bronze mounted malachite turning mantel clock

The malachite mantel clock case is styled like a classical amphora vase, which stands on a gilt bronze mounted waisted circular stem and foot. This foot stands on a podium, classically designed with clean lines and mounted with gilt bronze sculptural panels that complement the overall classical feel and theme of the piece. The vase case is mounted with gilt bronze snake handles and topped with a gilt bronze finial. The clock mechanism, called a cercle tournant, is composed of two cylindrical enamel discs, one enumerated with Roman numeral hour marks and the other with Arabic numeral minute marks. -
