This fine clock set is comprised of a central mantel clock and a pair of flanking candelabra. The set is crafted from gilt bronze in the Neoclassical style.
The mantel clock is of elongated form, the base raised on toupie feet and moulded with rich foliate detailing. The centrally placed white enamel dial is inscribed with Roman numeral hour indices and is signed ‘Blain / A Paris’. The clock case is surmounted by an urn-form finial and is flanked by a pair of large putti, one of whom wears a laurel crown and holds a spear, while the other cradles a sheaf of corn.
The candelabra are similarly decorated, each candelabrum featuring a stem wrought as a cornucopia held aloft by a kneeling putto. The stem of each issues six candle branches: five scrolled, foliate branches arranged in a lower tier around one central branch topped with a fitted finial. -
