    Large Empire period gilt bronze mantel clock
    French, early 19th Century
    Height 52cm, width 28cm, depth 17.5cm

    This superb Empire period mantel clock is crafted form gilt bronze. The clock features a large surmount of Erato, the Muse of poetry, who sits on an Empire style chair while holding a lyre. Erato is raised on the clock case, which is modelled as a table, complete with column shaped legs and a decorated apron. The sides of the table feature fine gilt bronze openwork, with arabesques, drapes, and griffon motifs predominating. The table is raised on a shaped plinth above four toupie feet. The dial is signed ‘Blanc Fils / Palais Royal’.
