Description
Large Empire style ormolu and malachite mantel clock with mythological sculpture
French, Late 19th Century
Height 58cm, width 46cm, depth 14cm
With large sculptural work depicting Jason and the Golden Fleece, which is mounted above the clock's case, this magnificent piece is a large Empire style, Neoclassical mantel clock, made in France in the late nineteenth century.
The dial is set within a malachite case (replacing the original marble) and is flanked by an ormolu sculptural depiction of the mythological scene. The relief plaque also depicts this subject, one of the most enduring of all tales from Greek mythology, and does so to create a wonderful, grand, and visually impressive antique timepiece. -
