This beautiful three-piece clock set is crafted from gilt bronze in the decadent Rococo Revival style. The set, comprising a mantel clock and twin candelabra, is designed about the leitmotif of the cherub: the mantel clock, raised on a shaped gilt bronze base richly applied with foliate detailing, houses three cherubim, each in an animated pose, while in each candelabrum a cherub functions as the central stem. The spherical clock drum is of deep blue tole with gilt hour marks. Each candelabrum supports ten branches, each branch ornately scrolled with applied foliate detailing.
The movement is stamped ‘Popon / A Paris’. -
