18th c. Spitalfields Fireplace Surround

Description
An historic chimneypiece or fireplace surround removed from an 18th century Georgian kitchen in Spitalfields, London. This imposing piece retains old white paint and is made from hand sawn and planed pine panels in the form of two wide pilasters on plinths with rebated top corners and an equally wide top architrave with ogee molded details below a thin mantel. This large and imposing fireplace surround would have completed part of a paneled room. The paint is in distressed condition. The surround is made of heavy boards and remains serviceable. English, circa 1760. Outside dimensions: 63 1/3" wide x 47" high x 5" deep. Inside dimensions: 24 1/4" wide x 36 1/2" high.
