Architectural Model Apprentice Carpenter Compagnons du Devoir France 1890
-
Description
This is a large French apprentice carpenter model project from around the 1890's. Compagnons du Devoir is a French organization of craftsman and artisans dating from the middle ages. Their traditional education teaching skills allows apprenticeships to learn from a master. The apprentice must submit a project to prove that they have mastered the skills being taught. This is a beautiful large model, almost made as a house. It has an intricately constructed roof & a spiral staircase, unusual as most projects only consist of a roof or a staircase, it rare to have both in one model. Made from a hard wood, it is is excellent condition, with only very minor aged chips & old worm holes. These make spectacular decorative sculptures.
