Description
Pair of French Empire style malachite and gilt bronze pedestals
French, 20th Century
Height 115cm, width 35cm, depth 35cm
This pair of 20th century French pedestals is crafted from malachite and gilt bronze. Their design is inspired by the very elegant Empire style popular in Europe in the early 19th century.
A square malachite surface tops each pedestal and is supported by an ornate gilt bronze Corinthian column capital - a nod to classical architecture that heavily influenced the Empire style. Below is a bright green malachite column, ornately covered with gilt bronze laurel garland mounts climbing all around the pieces. A gilt bronze garland-shaped banding decorates the base of the column. Both pedestals are of an identical design.
The pieces stand on malachite and gilt bronze stepped square bases, supported by gilt bronze feet.
This refined pair of pedestals would be a superb home addition on which to display other decorative objects. -
