-
Description
A silver cheroot case from MTB ‘Brave Borderer,’ of rectangular form, the exterior textured, the interior gilt and incised with an image of the boat above the legend ‘H.M.S. “Brave Borderer” 1858-59’ and the initials ‘N.D.F’. Fully assayed.
The Brave-class fast patrol torpedo boats were the fastest naval vessels in the world at the time of their commissioning in 1960. They proved to be very expensive, so only 2 were built; HMS Brave Borderer (P1011 photographed) and HMS Brave Swordsman (P1012). They formed the basis for a series of fast but simpler boats which were widely built for export. -
