Navajo pottery jars are rarely seen in the marketplace. Alice’s pots have been collected and treasured for may years. Alice learned to make pots from her mother (Rose Williams) and great aunt (Grace Barlow). She digs the clay in the Black Mesa area of Arizona, forms the pots, smooths them with a river stone and then fires them outdoors using juniper wood. She and her mother helped revitalize the Navajo tradition of making pottery.
Alice’s pots are found in many important collections, including in the Smithsonian and her pots were featured in Vice President Mondale’s collection in the Vice Presidential mansion in Washington, DC. She received the Arizona Indian Living Treasures Award in 2006. -
