    On offer is an antique Tabaco-Bon on a burlwood base, a pleasure item from Japan circa Meiji period. The piece was fashioned out of a block of natural burl wood with beautiful gnarled surface texture, It carries deep patina from the handling and reflects the concept of Wabi Sabi. A taller smaller holder and a wider teak holder with copper lining were fit into the burl base.
    This type of nature-inspired smoking accessories were very popular and among the literati and commoners alike in the traditional Japanese society, when the pursue of the zen aesthetic was reflected in the daily functional objects. This set was likely used during as part of the accoutrements for smoking sometimes during taking the tea.

    Condition: Good. Antique original condition, patina on all surface. Accumulation in the gap of the granules of the burl. Natural burl root with possible minor losses at the extremities. The copper lining has lots of age patina as well.
