Description
Antique large brass “magic lantern” lens. These lenses came in a variety of sizes. They make great desk accessories and can be used as paperweights.
The magic lantern was the earliest form of slide projector that used pictures—paintings, prints or photographs, one or more lenses and a light source. The name “magic lantern” comes from the experience of the early audiences who saw devils and angels mysteriously appear on the wall, as if by magic. It was mostly developed in the 17th century and commonly used for entertainment purposes. It was in wide use from the 18th century until the mid-20th century. -
