Description
A polished black double spouted vessel from the Lambayeque culture (also known as Sicán 750AD -1375 AD) on the northern coast of Peru, straddling the Middle Horizon and Late Intermediate Period of the ancient Central Andes and often considered as a later part of Moche culture. The favored prevalent pottery is sculpted and polished black ware such as this piece, made by using molds for mass production. Featuring an intricately carved bridge that connects the two spout, a flared foot, and realistic relief decoration of the jaguar heads near the spout, this vessel is of the typical period.
It was reportedly collected in 1953 by the previous owner. -
