B-52 Tin Toy Wind-Up Airplane, Japan, Circa 1950s
-
Description
Excellent and all original condition tinplate lithographed and hand painted all tin toy airplane "Made in Japan". Simulates a B-52 American bomber with "USAF" (United States Air Force) litho on the wing along with other markings, including pair of pilots appearing through window on both sides. A machine gun sticks out of the front window. It is a single prop plane with two wheels under the fuselage and a metal tab to the rear under the tail wings. It is "motorized" by gently winding up the keywind pin on the side of the fuselage (key included); upon release the plane lurches forward and then turns to the left and then straightens out again. The machine gun appears to fire as the propeller rotates. In almost perfect condition and operates well. The toy is not have a manufacturing mark other than "Made in Japan" under the fuselage, but it was obviously made for the American market.
