Description
Pair of antique cut crystal girandoles by Baccarat
French, Late 19th Century
Height 92cm, diameter 46cm
This stunning pair of 19th-century girandoles was meticulously crafted by the esteemed Baccarat company, renowned for its exceptional crystal clarity and superior quality. Baccarat crystal was and still is a favoured material among European nobility and the elite, and these girandoles stand as fine examples of the firm’s mastery in creating opulent, ornamental designs.
Both girandoles share a matching design, each boasting 12 candleholders arranged over two tiers. Their wide, flared bases rise into elegantly cut crystal stems, from which an array of intricate branches extend. Each branch is adorned with an assortment of crystal pendants and beads, varying in shape and size. The bobeches hold delicate pendants, while shimmering round beads are interspersed across the gilded bronze branches, and larger crystal spheres are positioned among the main pendants.
When lit, the beautifully faceted crystal elements reflect and refract the candlelight, producing a dazzling, radiant glow. The transparency of the crystal contrasts beautifully with the warm tones of the gilt bronze, particularly around the central stem and candleholders, enhancing the luxurious appeal of the pieces.
This exquisite pair would offer brilliant illumination for a dining area, with their radiant crystal reflections creating an enchanting, atmospheric effect in any room.
