Description
Baroque style pierced brass hearth fender
French, 19th Century
Height 56cm, width when open 120cm, width when closed 86cm, depth 13cm
This beautiful hearth—or fireplace—fender is crafted from brass in the exuberant Baroque style. The fender features a central section moulded with Baroque style motifs, including a pierced gallery and a central mount featuring griffons. The ends of the fender are similarly formed, each designed in an architectural manner: each features a buttress form body flanked by twin griffons, atop of which is a baluster form element surmounted by a flaming finial. The brass throughout is richly cast and finished. The ends can be moved in order to extend the fender to suit the length of a fireplace. - More Information
