Belly Tank Bonneville Salt Flats Race Car Sculpture
-
Description
A model of a Bonneville Salt Lake Belly Tank race car. After World War Two there was a lot of surplus aviation material including airplane fuel drop tanks or otherwise known as wing tanks. These tanks were carried under fighter aircraft fuselage or wings & were full of extra fuel needed for extended flights. When the aircraft used this fuel the tanks were then dropped. The shape of these tanks was very streamlined & made perfect shells for fast race cars. This is race car sculpture of a hand made miniature belly tank. It is hand hammered & machined aluminum. One of a few built & signed by the artist. This car has no engine, it is intended to be a display piece, but a gas powered engine could be installed if desired.
