"What Would Oprah Say? is part of an ongoing investigation of ideas I am working with which attempt to expose and satirize notions of religious fear, fundamentalism and war in the name of faith. My work describes the space which falls between comedy and tragedy, and this is continued here.
The gold leaf letters and text mimic religious announcements of apparent "Universal Truths" found in places of worship. Other works in this series are "Our Religion Must Win", "Unity in Faith, Strength in Fear" and "But Oprah Will Cry for Us". This particular work digs into the soft and complacent underbelly of inactive populations who, in the face of tradegy and war, bow to the temple of a mediated morality... which is the title of the piece."
