Price Upon Request
  • Description
This classical vase exemplifies the striving by ceramic makers of the 40's and 50's to produce the "Perfect Asian Pot".
It's an early example of work by Carl-Harry Stalhane.

Stalhane, an internationally renowned ceramicist worked at the Rorstrand Pottery from the age of 19, ultimately becaming its artistic director and chief designer, at the age of 30 in 1953. He studied painting with Isaac Grunewald, Stockholm; and sculpture in Paris with Ossip Zadkine

Stalhane's early works are both graceful and symmetrical. They're often in matte glazes simulating the aesthetics of Sung Dynasty ceramics, his inspiration.

In 1951 he won the gold prize at the 9th Triennale, held at Milan and in 1954 he won the Diplome d'honneur, at the 10th Triennale.

His work is held in the collections of:

The Museum of Modern Art, New York
    The National Museum, Stockholm
    Industrial Arts Museum, Copenhagen
The Victoria & Albert Museum, London
