Description
A large antique Chinese Tang dynasty manner glazed pottery bust of Guanyin with a solemn face expression and downcast eyes, wearing a headdress and robes. The bust is covered with polychrome enamel. The hair is covered with dark enamel, and the headdress is adorned with traditional floral and foliage motifs. Presented with a footed hand carved wooden stand. Guanyin is the Chinese translation of Avalokiteshvara, the bodhisattva of compassion. Circa: late 19th century to early 20th century. A paper label under the stand.
