Collection of 19th Century Bohemian glass for the Persian market
Bohemian, late 19th Century
Smallest object: Height 24cm, width 10cm, depth 9cm
Largest object: Height 26cm, diameter 11cm
This wonderful collection of Bohemian glass objects was created in the late 19th Century for the Persian market. The set—which includes three vases, one huqqa base and one jug—will make a beautiful addition to a collection of antique glassware.
The glass huqqa base is composed of an ovoid body and cylindrical neck. It is covered with a blue overlay and finely decorated with enamel motifs, including orange scrollwork and colourful flowers.
One of the three vases is slightly larger than the other two, but they are all of identical design. The vases take the form of cornucopias held in clasped hands. The cornucopias are white and decorated with blue foliate motifs and gilding. They have frilled edges and feature medallions containing detailed depictions of the Qajar kings of Persia, Naser al-Din Shah and Mozaffar al-Din Shah. These cornucopias are held in pink hands, wearing parcel gilt white lace cuffs.
The jug (or possibly tea pot) features a bulbous body, topped by a slender neck which is covered by a pointed stopper. The jug’s body is fitted with a narrow spout and single looping handle. It stands on a circular foot. This jug is covered with a white overlay and is beautifully ornamented with gilt scrolled and foliate patterns, as well as pink, blue, turquoise and purple enamel beads.
