Collection of four 20th century bisque porcelain bird models
Continental, 20th Century
Largest (pair of sparrows): Height 17.5cm, width 13cm, depth 6cm
This exquisite collection of bisque porcelain birds beautifully captures the elegance of nature and the superb craftsmanship of esteemed porcelain makers. Each piece is meticulously designed, showcasing lifelike details and delicate hand-painting.
Among the collection is a striking goldfinch, depicted in brilliant yellow with contrasting black and white accents. It bears the mark of Goebel / W Germany, a renowned German porcelain manufacturer established in 1871. This particular mark was used between 1949 and 1990, during Germany’s post-war division.
Adding a touch of charm, a pair of house sparrows is perched gracefully on slender branches. One appears to be mid-song, its beak slightly open. Crafted by the German Royal Meridian manufactory, this piece was produced exclusively for Noritake, a distinguished Japanese tableware brand.
The great tit, a creation of Portugal’s prestigious Vista Alegre, is elegantly posed atop a branch, its head turned downward as if curiously observing its surroundings.
Completing the set is a finely detailed bird by Lefton, a Japanese brand celebrated for its high-quality porcelain and collectibles. The bisque surface is masterfully hand-painted, with delicate white brushstrokes adding a luminous, feather-like sheen.
Perfect for collectors and bird enthusiasts alike, this remarkable set serves as a sophisticated decorative accent, blending artistry with the beauty of the avian world. -
