Collection of French late 19th century perfume and toilet boxes
French, Late 19th century
Largest (perfume bottle): Height 17cm, diameter 9cm
This exquisite collection features four intricately crafted boxes and bottles, designed for a lady’s dressing table at the turn of the 20th century.
The first piece is a mother-of-pearl mechanised perfume holder, set on a stone base within an ornate ormolu frame. Shaped like an egg, it opens to reveal two suspended perfume vials.
Next is a tall, tiered white opaline glass scent holder, adorned with delicate gilded patterns on both the body and topper. The collection also includes two hinged caskets with ornate ormolu detailing. One, made of pink opaline glass, is egg-shaped and suspended in an ormolu mount decorated with leaves and baubles, crowned with an ivy-leaf finial. The other, crafted from green opaline glass, features gilded patterns and an ormolu rim that extends into a snake-shaped handle.
Finely detailed and beautifully designed, these elegant boxes and bottles bring a touch of refinement to any dressing table arrangement. -
