Collection of vintage luggage, a set of four English travel cases
English, 20th Century
Green: height 18cm, width 67cm, depth 38cm
Tan: height 18cm, width 53cm, depth 33cm
Fascinating historical pieces, and fine objects that have stood the test of time despite rigorous usage, these four vintage travel cases date to the early part of the twentieth century, and testify to the history of British railways and travel. In green, tan, and light and dark brown, they are of approximately the same size and design, with similar locking mechanisms to the front of each, and are variously stamped for the makers and journeys taken: one, 'B--- Bros / Makers /Cheltenham,' with others stamped inside. The initials 'D.L.A' (for a David Lyndon Arkwright), are also embossed for the original owner. They bear labels for both Southern British Railways and Royal Mail Lines, attesting to a rich history of use. -
