Dutch Baroque Iron & Brass Fire Grate
-
Description
A wonderful 17th century and later Dutch Baroque period wrought iron and brass fire grate of large scale, the rectangular basket with cast-iron back having foliate and geometric designs connected by wrought supports, the front brass clad, with projecting large brass knob finials. Basket measures 15.88" x 11.63".
Note: The basket was originally larger and apparently reduced in scale in the late 19th century as evidenced by the now fixed sliding expansion bars at front and likely when the fireback was replaced; does not affect its integrity or presentation. The knobs can be unscrewed for cleaning. -
